Miro

Connect your AI agents with Miro to automate collaborative whiteboarding, visual project management, and board content operations.

Miro is an online collaborative whiteboarding platform used for visual project management, design thinking, diagramming, and team brainstorming. The Relevance AI integration connects your agents to Miro via native OAuth, enabling them to read and write boards, create sticky notes, shapes, and card items, and call the Miro API directly for operations not covered by the built-in steps.

Warning:

The Miro integration in Relevance AI was built by Relevance AI, and is therefore supported by our team, not Miro. If you have a question or issue with using Miro in Relevance AI, please reach out to our support team. If you have a question or issue that is only about Miro itself, you can contact Miro support.

Connect the integration

The Miro integration uses native OAuth and requests two scopes: boards:read and boards:write.

  1. Navigate to the Integrations section in your Relevance AI dashboard.
  2. Find and select Miro from the available integrations.
  3. Click Connect.
  4. You will be redirected to Miro to authorize the connection.
  5. Log in to your Miro account if prompted.
  6. Review and approve the requested permissions (boards:read and boards:write).
  7. Once authorized, you will be redirected back to Relevance AI with the integration active.
Info:

Access tokens expire after 60 minutes and are automatically refreshed. Refresh tokens expire after 60 days and are auto-rotated on each use.

Tool steps

The Miro integration provides 15 tool steps organized by the type of Miro object they operate on.

Board operations

List boards

Retrieve a list of all Miro boards accessible to the connected account.

Get board

Fetch details for a specific board by its ID.

Create board

Create a new Miro board with a specified name and settings.

Update board

Update the name or description of an existing board.

Delete board

Permanently delete a board by its ID.

Item operations

Get items

Retrieve all items on a board, with optional filtering by item type.

Get item

Fetch a single item from a board by its item ID.

Delete item

Remove a specific item from a board.

Sticky note operations

Create sticky note

Add a sticky note to a board with specified text, color, and position.

Update sticky note

Change the text, color, or position of an existing sticky note.

Shape operations

Create shape

Add a shape item to a board with specified geometry and style properties.

Update shape

Update the geometry, style, or content of an existing shape on a board.

Card item operations

Create card item

Create a card item on a board with a title, description, assignee, and due date.

Update card item

Update the title, description, assignee, or due date of an existing card item.

Generic API

Miro API call

Make a custom authenticated request to any Miro REST API endpoint not covered by the specific steps above.

Tip:

Type “Miro” in the tool step search bar to see all available Miro actions when building a tool.

Use the generic API tool step (advanced)

For operations not covered by the 14 specific tool steps, the Miro API call step lets you make authenticated requests to any Miro REST API endpoint.

Create or open a tool

Create a new tool in Relevance AI or open an existing one.

Add the Miro API call step

In the tool steps panel, search for Miro API call and add it to your workflow.

Select your connected Miro account

Choose the Miro account you connected via OAuth.

Configure the request

Set the HTTP method (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE), the API path (for example, /v2/boards/{board_id}/frames), and any required request body or query parameters.

Test the call

Run the step to verify it returns the expected response before saving your tool.

Migration from Pipedream

If you previously connected Miro through a Pipedream-based integration, a migration wizard can upgrade your existing Miro steps to their native equivalents. The 14 specific Pipedream-based Miro steps map to native versions, and most settings carry across. For card item steps, the width, height and rotation values don’t carry over, so set them again on the native step after migrating. The Pipedream Miro API call step isn’t included, so rebuild any of those with the native Miro API call step.

Info:

When you open a tool that contains Pipedream-based Miro steps, a banner offers to upgrade them. Click Upgrade, connect or select your native Miro account, then review the migrated steps and click Save to apply the changes.

Common use cases

Populating a retrospective board with sticky notes

An agent can read responses from a form or data source, then use the Create sticky note step to add each response to a designated Miro board. Sticky notes can be grouped by color to distinguish categories such as “what went well” from “what to improve.”

Creating and managing project boards

Agents can use Create board to spin up a new board for each project, then use Create card item steps to populate it with tasks, assign owners, and set due dates — all without manual setup in the Miro UI.

Syncing task status from an external system

When a task in an external system changes status, an agent can retrieve the corresponding card item from Miro using Get item, then call Update card item to reflect the new state — keeping the visual board in sync automatically.

Archiving or auditing board content

An agent can call List boards to enumerate all boards in an account, then use Get items on each board to export a structured snapshot of all content for auditing, backup, or reporting purposes.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What permissions does the Miro integration request?

The integration requests two OAuth scopes: boards:read (to retrieve board and item data) and boards:write (to create, update, and delete boards and items). These scopes are requested at connection time and cannot be changed after authorization without reconnecting.

How long do Miro access tokens last?

Access tokens expire after 60 minutes. Relevance AI refreshes them automatically in the background so your agents do not need to re-authenticate. Refresh tokens expire after 60 days and are replaced with a new one each time they are used.

Can I connect multiple Miro accounts?

Yes. You can connect more than one Miro account by adding separate integrations for each. When configuring a tool step, select the appropriate account from the connected accounts list.

What happens if I revoke access in Miro?

If you revoke the connection in Miro, your agent’s tool steps will start returning authentication errors. Reconnect the integration from the Relevance AI Integrations page to restore access.

Do I need a paid Miro plan to use this integration?

A free Miro account can connect to the integration, but certain Miro features (such as private boards or advanced sharing settings) may require a paid Miro plan. Check Miro’s pricing page for details on plan-specific restrictions.
